Born on Vancouver Island, I've had a life-long love affair with the people and places there. It's no surprise then, that The Island (as it's known to most British Columbians) features prominently in my fiction.

I've been telling stories for as long as I've been able to talk and writing them down for as long as I've been able to hold a pencil. I honestly don't remember not being able to read. When I was seven I wrote and illustrated my first book (binding it in covers created from a box of crackers). When I was ten, I had my first short story published in the local newspaper. By the time I was sixteen I was simultaneously writing three novels. By most standards, I was off to a fine literary start.

But, even though I'd always dreamed of being a published author, when high school graduation and that big question, “What are you going to do with your life?” loomed, I decided I'd better go out and get a “real job.”

Fast forward several years, and several “real” (yet not quite fulfilling) jobs, later and I decided to put all that career stuff on hold, get married and have children. Without a doubt, being a parent is one of the most rewarding careers out there, yet something was lacking in my stay-at-home mommy world.

It wasn't long before I realized what it was. So while my little ones napped, I set to work on another novel. The rest, as they say, is history.

Currently, I'm working on my second novel, Figure Eight. You can read an excerpt of it, or of my first novel, Dogwood Summer, here.

My short fiction appears in several literary magazines, including Literary Mama, Gator Springs Gazette and Flashquake.

Some day I intend to return to my beloved Vancouver Island, but for now I live just outside Vancouver, British Columbia, with my husband and our two sons.
